Grocery Shopping in Spain
Supermercados (Supermarkets) in Spain have everything. From pickled white asparagus to a entire pig’s leg. But, thats not all… There is also entire rows of olive oils and chocolates! Yum. 🙂
The chocolate is all quality. No snickers here! Only truffles and pralines. Delicious!
Dor, so far is my favorite brand for quality chocolates! 🙂
This is the row with all the pickled white asparagus and AMAZING olives. So, pickled asparagus. I bet your wondering what that tastes like. Well, mushy…. As for the taste, theres no way to describe it. Did you know that the majority of olives are grown by the Mediterranean sea? Well, that explains why they are so good! 🙂 They have olive tree’s all around Andalusia as well as citrus trees!
Remember my post on Belbake cupcakes? Well, they do other sweets too! I know I’ll be trying another Belbakes mix around the holidays!
Cheese is different everywhere. In Spain they had a new kind of cheese that I had never seen before! It’s called Tierno and it is part cow, goat, and sheep cheese all together!
These are Digestives. They are named that because the baking soda is said to settle stomaches. They are most popular in the UK and Australia. I found them in Spain because many people from the UK come to winter in Spain. Because, it is so cold in the UK this time of year. These biscuits can come covered in chocolate or in other flavors like orange.
Wow, Spain does have everything! Right next to the chicken eggs in stores you can find quail eggs! I wonder what they taste like. I don’t really want to try them though. 🙂
Some other things in Spain Supermercados that is different. To keep shopping carts from being stolen or left out, to get a shopping you have to put in a coin into the cart to unlock it. Then you get the coin back once you return the cart! Also, Spain doesn’t use plastic bags, when you check out! You have to bring out your re-usable bags and bag your groceries yourself! Thats one of the reasons Spain is so clean!
It’s lots of fun exploring different places and diving into their different cultures. Adíos from España!
I’ve seen quail eggs in the Asian store here. There is no way I’d eat one! EEEW! that just seems gross. I know, I eat chicken eggs so what’s the difference right? but no! not for me. 🙂 Actually I don’t eat eggs anymore anyway.
Haha, I’m not much of an egg person either. 🙂 The eggs are so tiny too!
I’ve had quail egg soup in a castle on the top of a cliff overlooking Lake Bled in Slovenia. It was quite lovely. When you get to Bled next summer, check out their quail soup, Summer. I’m pretty sure you guys will be going there. Wish I could be there with you! Have fun.
