What does it mean to be a world traveller?
As one quote I found on Facebook (naturally) so perfectly quoted.
“You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart always will be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.”
― Miriam Adeney
Unfortunately this is true in most cases. The number of times I have been in tears on planes, trains, and buses is more than I can count. I am always leaving parts of my heart in different places. Does that mean that I am not excited for my next destination? Not at all. But it does remind me, that each place that I stay leaves a mark on me. My mind, my heart, my soul. And it is hard to leave that behind. Yet this is what we sign on for when we travel. I know it. Travelling is just so intoxicating that you can’t seem to help it.
I dream about it. I dream of waking up on a flight and not remembering how and when I got on it, and being okay with that.
“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”
― Anthony Bourdain
Traveling is a part of me, and goodbyes are something that you have to learn to accept. Knowing, that one day, you will always return to the places where your heart is left. I have many places I must return to. And I contain a list of even more places in which my heart wishes to see. But I know, the journey will always be worth it. In the form of a friend, a lesson, or a new city to love. This is my life. I chose I life of travel.
